Robert R. Preuhs is Professor and Chair of Political Science at Metropolitan State University of Denver. His research focuses on issues of representation and democracy through the lens of racial and ethnic politics, state and national political institutions, and public policy.

Preuhs’ publications have appeared in the leading peer-reviewed journals in the discipline of political science, such as The American Journal of Political Science, The Journal of Politics, Political Research Quarterly, American Politics Quarterly, and Social Science Quarterly, among others. He is co-author (along with Rodney E. Hero) of Black-Latino Relations in U.S. National Politics: Beyond Conflict or Cooperation (Cambridge University Press, 2013), the first study of minority inter-group relations at the national level. He regularly contributes commentary and expertise to regional, national and international media outlets and has been quoted in The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal, and appeared on PBS and The Denver Channel, among others.

Preuhs received his Ph.D. (2001) and M.A. (1999) in political science from the University of Colorado at Boulder, specializing in American politics, public policy and research methodology. He holds a Master of Public Administration degree (1996) from the University of New Mexico, with a concentration in Budgeting and Program Evaluation. His B.A. (1992, cum laude) was granted by Hamline University in St. Paul, MN. Prior to coming to MSU-Denver in the fall of 2007, Preuhs taught at the University of Colorado at Boulder and the University of Denver.
