SEDS MSU Denver Outreach Activities

While we at SEDS @ MSU Denver have lofty goals we realize we must start from the ground and build up. This theory is no different when it comes to education. That is why our members regularly volunteer at different events and presentations who’s focus is on children K-12. By assisting in the education and help wherever we can we can make a difference in improving the experience and education of STEM(science, technology, engineering, and mathematics).

Community/Volunteer Outreach

Some of the groups we have volunteered for/with are:

Space Foundation: The Space Foundation is a global, nonprofit leader in space awareness activities, educational programs that bring space into the classroom, and major industry events. Each year the Space Foundation puts on the National Space Symposium, which SEDS MSU Denver members are highly encouraged to volunteer for.

Best Robotics– A middle and high school robotics competition whose mission is to engage and excite students about engineering, science, and technology as well as inspire them to pursue careers in these fields. We had two members volunteer to be two of the nine referees in the 2013 competition. Several other members also assisted with the setup, team check-in and various other jobs.

Wings Over the Rockies– The mission of Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum is to educate and inspire people of all ages about aviation and space endeavors of the past, present and future. We have several members who are involved with the museum and volunteer with different exhibits and events.

Educational Outreach

SEDS MSU Denver is committed to enhancing STEM interest in people of all ages, especially those still in school, whether elementary through college, we aim to show all the importance of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics as these fields have strongly crafted the space industry since its beginning.

In order to achieve this we are currently crafting our Pre-Collegiate Exhibition Program, which will be aimed at students in elementary through high school, and provide them with hands-on learning activities to help them build an interest in STEM and Space. We at SEDS MSU Denver look forward to the development of this exciting program and are looking for input from any and all within the community.
