She is a full professor in the Department of Psychological Sciences at Metropolitan State University of Denver. At MSU Denver, she teaches courses such as psychology of prejudice, psychology and racism, psychology of gender, and psychology of sexual orientation, as well as statistics and research methods courses. She also recently developed a new course, Psychology and Racism, which she will begin teaching in Fall 2026. Passionate about teaching and inclusivity, Dr. Ropp regularly gives talks to professors about how to increase their cultural competence, specifically when interacting with LGBTQIA+ students.

In her research, Dr. Ropp explores topics related to prejudice and discrimination, including gender discrimination and LGBTQIA+ bias. In the last several years, she has extended this research to the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL). For example, in a recent study, she examined how professors’ gender identities and actions (such as their level of formality) impact students’ perceptions of them. Currently, she is exploring how and why mindfulness and meditation (which she stumbled upon 30 years ago) might be useful, although sometimes damaging, to intergroup relations.

Dr. Ropp is a queer, nonbinary, and neurodivergent person with disabilities who loves dark chocolate, both loves and hates running, and is a yogi who goes to Yoga on the Rocks every year. She also believes reducing our levels of prejudice, stereotyping, and discrimination is an achievable and admirable goal.

Here’s how to pronounce Anna Ropp:

http://sites.msudenver.edu/annaropp/wp-content/uploads/sites/495/2024/10/Name-pronunciation-for-Anna-Ropp.m4a

Anna Ropp (she/they) received her Ph.D. in social psychology with a specialization in intergroup relations from the University of California Santa Cruz.
