Pattern of Reasoning, Logical Structure
- Logical Validity – Credible premises that make the argument valid
- Logical Strength – Credible premises that make the argument strong
- Step 1: Find the premises and the conclusion
- Step 2: Is it deductive? Conclusive
- Step 3: Is it inductive? Probable
- Step 4: Does it fail to offer conclusive or probable support?
Diagram the Argument
- Find indicator words
- Number all the statements
- Wavy line under the conclusion
- Cross out extraneous statements (neither a premise or a conclusion statement)
- Diagram the argument.
