LABORATORY SAFETY<\/u><\/p>\n

  1. No food or drink is allowed in lab.<\/li>\n
  2. \u00a0All doors must remain closed and locked for active shooter reasons.<\/li>\n
  3. Safety glasses are required for all dissection labs.<\/li>\n
  4. Disposable gloves are necessary and are provided. A lab coat or an old shirt to protect your clothing is highly recommended but not provided.<\/li>\n
  5. Respirators with filters for formalin are available upon request.\u00a0 Lab goggles are\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0available upon request.<\/li>\n
  6. All used scalpel blades must be placed in the red sharps container.\u00a0 If needed, ask\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 your instructor for assistance in replacing your scalper blades. Do not use scalpels\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 as pointers during dissection.<\/li>\n
  7. No laboratory specimens (bones included) may leave the lab room.\u00a0 (Bones are on\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 reserve at the Auraria library.)<\/li>\n
  8. Review and abide by the Anatomy and Physiology Laboratory Safety Guidelines from the Marieb Lab Manual.<\/li>\n
  9. Follow University protocols for COVID-19.<\/li>\n

    DISSECTION<\/u><\/p>\n

      \n
    1. Work in groups of four people per animal.<\/li>\n
    2. When in doubt, never cut a structure without first asking your instructor.<\/li>\n
    3. Double bag the animals using the large plastic bags that came with them plus a\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 second bag provided by your instructor or in cupboard labeled with “bags.”\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Attach\u00a0 the name tag securely.\u00a0 Place in the assigned refrigerator.<\/li>\n
    4. Your tags should be filled in with a waterproof pen. Include the names of all students using the cat, the instructor\u2019s name, the semester, and either BIO 2310 or BIO 2320.<\/li>\n
    5. Never use someone else\u2019s dissection specimen unless you have the instructor\u2019s permission. If you do use another animal, have the courtesy to bag and tag it properly.<\/li>\n
    6. Always clean up your trays and work area thoroughly when you are done with the\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 dissection.<\/li>\n
    7. \u00a0Only animal parts should go into the hazardous waste containers.\u00a0 Plastic, gloves,\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0paper towel all go in regular trash.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      OPEN LAB HOURS<\/u><\/p>\n

      THERE ARE NONE.\u00a0 All labs can be done within the allotted amount of time,\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0providing you prepare for the lab by reading the lab manual, and work diligently\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0in lab.\u00a0 If you would like some extra time to study in lab, you may work with one\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 of the other classes, provided:<\/p>\n

      1. You obtain permission of the instructor teaching the lab.<\/li>\n
      2. There is not a lab test set up or being taken by the other class.<\/li>\n
