Students are expected to be aware of any additional course policies presented by the instructor during the course.<\/p>\n<h3>Office Hours:<\/h3>\n<p>MW 12-1:30<\/p>\n<p>TR 9-10<\/p>\n<h3>Learning Objectives:<\/h3>\n<p>After successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:<\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0 Understand the contributions of various cultures to the development of mathematics.<\/p>\n<p>2.\u00a0 Understand the contributions of Greek mathematicians and solve problems from this period.<\/p>\n<p>3.\u00a0 Understand the contributions of Enlightenment mathematicians including Newton, Gauss and\u00a0\u00a0 Euler.<\/p>\n<p>4.\u00a0 Understand more recent topics in mathematics.<\/p>\n<p>5.\u00a0 Prove classical theorems from the history of mathematics.<\/p>\n<h3>Major Assignments\/Exams:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Midterm Exam(s)&#8211;20%<\/li>\n<li>Final Exam&#8211;25%<\/li>\n<li>Attendance\/participation&#8211;10%<\/li>\n<li>Daily Homework&#8211;20%<\/li>\n<li>Projects&#8211;25%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Daily assignments:<\/h3>\n<p>I will give daily written\u00a0assignments and reading assignments. Most of these will allow for some discretion on the part of the students. Generally the assignments will\u00a0be a general topic and a number of problems to be chosen by the student from the available books. If this doesn&#8217;t work over time I will write questions or copy them for distribution. Assignments are expected at class time.\u00a0Partial homework will receive partial credit.<\/p>\n<p>In class we will discuss the homework and work problems in groups. Students will be expected to actively participate in discussion and to present work at the board.<\/p>\n<h3>Required Reading:<\/h3>\n<p>Any addition of Katz or Burton.<\/p>\n<h2>OneNote:<\/h2>\n<p>It is my hope that the homework and projects can be turned in electronically on the onenote page I have shared with you.
