Night rolls in<\/span>
and the landscape\u2019s no more<\/span>
than scattered farmhouses,<\/span>
interspersed with darkness.<\/span><\/div>\n

Is anything central?<\/span>
Everything\u2019s just<\/span>
South Street. North Street,<\/span>
East and West.<\/span><\/div>\n

Nothing is Main.<\/span>
Wherever I go,<\/span>
the town center is elsewhere.<\/span>
Is it fate\u2019s doing<\/span>
or just a quirk of the locals.<\/span><\/div>\n

The people are private<\/span>
by nature and design.<\/span>
And they are quirky.<\/span>
They happen to me<\/span>
more than they welcome my presence.<\/span><\/div>\n

If I ask directions,<\/span>
they send me down the lumpiest of trails.<\/span>
Or they scratch their heads,<\/span>
like the letters you wait for<\/span>
that never arrive.<\/span><\/div>\n

Yet, folks seem wise.<\/span>
And present no immediate danger.<\/span>
You should read my city poems.<\/span>
They wouldn\u2019t have even got me<\/span><\/div>\n
this far.<\/div>\n
