\nPondering still as air, a multitude of eyes peered upon God
\nButchered bark sway to our presence, no matter how sordid our life
\nEvery October you flutter as harvest falls in our midst, a definite spark
\nMemories of your divine, uttered through every martyrs last goodbye
\nYou stand tall as a witness to their demise,<\/p>\n
\nAs they slice your stubbled branches, your tears fall free
\nHands tightly grasped around your stem,
\nviolently strung from the ancient root,
\nCaterpillar tractors pave the way
\nfor rivers bolstering our cries from Sinai to Beirut.
\nCarved into our tragedies, forgotten stories,
\nnecklaces I wear around my neck,
\nan umber cross
\nAs I tread, head bowed over dead olives,
\nRuined over the loss.<\/p>\n
