{"id":24,"date":"2021-05-05T22:14:11","date_gmt":"2021-05-05T22:14:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.msudenver.edu\/roadrunnerreview\/?page_id=24"},"modified":"2022-05-09T14:40:04","modified_gmt":"2022-05-09T14:40:04","slug":"greeting-death-poetry","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sites.msudenver.edu\/roadrunnerreview\/issue-1\/greeting-death-poetry\/","title":{"rendered":"Greeting Death"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: right\">by Taylor Frost<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>My great-grandmother is lucid<br \/>\nfor the first time in days.<br \/>\nShe is nestled in her chair in the living room,<br \/>\nmy mother by her side, feeding her<br \/>\npopcorn from a cupped palm, dropping<br \/>\nit into her bird-like mouth<br \/>\npiece by piece.<\/p>\n<p>She looks at my mother, \u201cI\u2019m ready,\u201d<br \/>\nshe whispers. \u201cDress me in a long purple skirt<br \/>\nand push me from the window<br \/>\nso that I can finally fly, fly, fly.\u201d<br \/>\nMy mother begins to cry,<br \/>\nthey both turn their heads,<br \/>\nlook at me.<\/p>\n<p>I say nothing,<br \/>\nbut I wonder what it must be like to look forward<br \/>\nand see nothing but light.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Taylor Frost is a poet located in Central Virginia, where she spends time with her young son, reading, drinking iced coffee, and exploring. She received her Bachelor\u2019s in English from Hollins University.
