{"id":99,"date":"2022-05-09T04:30:08","date_gmt":"2022-05-09T04:30:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.msudenver.edu\/roadrunnerreview\/?page_id=99"},"modified":"2022-05-09T15:00:50","modified_gmt":"2022-05-09T15:00:50","slug":"sonnet-for-lonely-evenings-spent-beneath-the-sky","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sites.msudenver.edu\/roadrunnerreview\/issue-3\/sonnet-for-lonely-evenings-spent-beneath-the-sky\/","title":{"rendered":"Sonnet for Lonely Evenings Spent Beneath the Sky"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: right\">by Samuel Karl<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As clocks a-ding their evening\u2019s solemn tune<\/p>\n<p>along a lonely night\u2019s poor afternoon;<\/p>\n<p>when hearts are struck and ring aloud for all<\/p>\n<p>and all aloud sing loud their nightly call:<\/p>\n<p>the Sun, who\u2019s hidden, sighs; the rising moon,<\/p>\n<p>on muted mites, shines: quite sits our gloom,<\/p>\n<p>and silent sit my woe struck griefs; we see<\/p>\n<p>the bird, unquiet, sing a melody<\/p>\n<p>which steals our ears and leads to pleasant glee,<\/p>\n<p>and, damp, the wind a-blows an Earth that\u2019s free.<\/p>\n<p>The grass all hides beneath a moonlight\u2019s shade<\/p>\n<p>and lucky we, who lay soft in that glade:<\/p>\n<p>the joyous unknown is now known to me:<\/p>\n<p>Not knowledge, but feeling sets us all free.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Samuel is a MSU student getting his bachelors in English. He enjoys all kinds of literature and has recently found an especial love for Sonnets&#8211;although iambic style still sadly eludes him.
