Send her an email at rcottrel@msudenver.edu to get on the schedule for this semester!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is a Midterm Feedback Session?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Midterm feedback sessions, or small-group instructional diagnosis (SGID) sessions provide a chance to have an outsider come into your face-to-face, online or synchronous class to talk with your students, and give them a chance to offer feedback through a process of coming to consensus about the strengths and challenges of a particular course.  Students discuss these topics in small groups, and then come to consensus as a class.  These sessions are typically conducted at the midway point throughout the semester to allow time to implement changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How Does a Feedback Session Work?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>You&#8217;ll have an intial consultation with Becky to plan for the session in your class.<\/li><li>In a synchronous or face-to-face class, Becky will plan a specific time to visit for about 20 minutes.  In an online class, you&#8217;ll schedule a time to complete this work in two parts, a survey, and a Google doc activity, typically over the course of a week.<\/li><li>During the session, Becky will walk students through the process of small group discussion, and large group connections to come to a consensus about the strengths of the course, and areas that could be improved.<\/li><li>Becky will prepare a report for the instructor based on student feedback<\/li><li>You&#8217;ll be expected to acknowledge the results you get from the report, and consider any changes you&#8217;d like to make based on the student feedback.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why Conduct a Feedback Session?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>This process helps students come to consensus about their feedback, avoiding outliers from one vocal student who likes or dislikes an element of the course.<\/li><li>Students appreciate the chance to provide feedback during a course when changes can be implemented before the end of the semester.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.duq.edu\/about\/centers-and-institutes\/center-for-teaching-excellence\/feedback-on-teaching\/benefits-of-early-course-evaluations\">Research shows that midterm feedback<\/a> can have a postive impact on SRIs when instructors ask for feedback, and then implement changes.<\/li><\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Did you know that Becky is available to help with midterm feedback sessions?!
