I can’t believe we are entering into the 3rd week of classes already. This is an important time for online classes as the newness wears off and the work begins. For online it is a time where instructors and students both can either establish a good pattern of interaction or bad patterns of responding late, forgetting, and general disorganization. Week 3, 7, and 11 are great times to re-establish commitment to and excitement for the course. Try to make personal contact with as many students as possible during these times. Tell what is important for them to be learning so they are clear on the purpose of engaging with the content. Maybe try something new or give them a challenge – this serves to “wake” us up to what creates a dynamic learning community. This could be an optional Zoom meeting or virtual office hours that ropes in the students to create a stronger connection with you. Maybe a little competition to respond to an email or prompt in a discussion questions for extra credit.<\/p>\n

So, in an effort to keep online faculty engaged, I want to share the ongoing support and training that MSU Denver is offering this fall. What is cool is that there are many different levels at which to engage, some are just one hour and some a full year of teacher training. Make sure if you are interested that you RSVP or contact the organizer to let them know you are coming.<\/p>\n
