They are based out of Coeur d’Alene, ID and predominantly serve the Pacific Northwest. They are also a former recipient of Library TPS funding and have come back to the Consortium through this Regional Grant.

Their project will facilitate a careful, reverse chronological examination of social justice and civil rights incidents in U.S. history that mirror each other over time. They plan to reach several groups through this grant including formal classroom teachers and programs outside of the traditional school settings including after school programs, youth organizations, faith-based organizations, etc.

The project plans to provide online training to over 150 participants throughout the grant. They will create teaching materials which will be vetted and shared at their conference and through the Creative Commons OER and other partner sites.

Idaho Commission for Libraries
Contact: Jeannie Standal – School Library Consultant
Email: Jeannie.standal@libraries.idaho.gov
Website: https://libraries.idaho.gov

Grant awarded May 20, 2020

The Idaho Commission for Libraries (ICfL) is a library advocacy and professional development agency whose mission is to assist libraries to build capacity to better serve their communities. To meet that mission, ICfL will implement their new regional grant, “Teaching with Primary Sources in Idaho K-12 Classrooms and School Libraries,” across eight sites throughout Idaho. In view of the uncertainty caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, ICfL will adapt their project plan to focus on virtual learning events rather than in-person, onsite sessions at regional school libraries. The virtual events or onsite sessions will equip educators to incorporate primary sources into their teaching practice and to disseminate their newfound knowledge to colleagues at their schools. This regional grant will be targeted towards smaller, rural libraries for whom these types of professional development opportunities may not be readily available. ICfL will work with established partners including the Idaho Library Association, subject matter experts, school districts, and school librarians across the state.

Boise State University
Contact: Nancy Tacke – Education Editor, BSU Center for Idaho History and Politics‌
Email: nancytacke@boisestate.edu
Website: http://www.boisestate.edu

Grant awarded March 5, 2010

This grant first brought TPS training to Idaho by providing workshops for methods instructors and teachers in conjunction with the Idaho Council for History Education (ICHE) Social Studies Conference in October 2010. Two October workshops were successfully completed at the ICHE Conference; a methods instructor’s workshop on October 6 and a K-12 teacher’s workshop on October 7-8, 2010. Nineteen educators were recruited from all 3 geographic regions of the state to attend the workshops and bring TPS back to their home districts. Awareness correspondence and fliers were sent to 600-800 educators via the Idaho Social Studies Roundtable. This grant piloted a new model of bringing in a previously trained university professor from Arizona State University (Dr. Linda Sargent-Wood) to help train new methods instructors and K-12 teachers.

National Council for the Social Studies Contact: Larry Paska Email: lpaska@ncss.org Website: https://www.socialstudies.org/tps Grant Awarded: 3/15/24 The project aims to disseminate and model the implementation of the NCSS Inquiry and Teaching to Prepare Students for College, Career, and Civic Life texts found at https://www.socialstudies.org/tps .
