Over the intervening years, school curriculum calendars have largely moved beyond such nostalgia. Today, schools and community groups across the United States celebrate the heritage, holidays, and contributions of a far wider range of ethnic, cultural, racial, and religious groups. We also have access to vast collections of primary sources to add meaning and depth to learning about holidays and special heritage months. We only need to know where to look.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Library of Congress Pages for Heritage Months<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Library of Congress features a number of online pages for heritage months with primary sources drawn not only from its own collections, but also from collections of the Smithsonian Institution, the National Park Service, the National Archives and Records Administration, and the National Endowment for the Humanities &#8211; with others added as the topic dictates. The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jewishheritagemonth.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Jewish American Heritage Month<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> page, for example, adds vital resources from the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and even one image from the Supreme Court!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> <a href=\"http:\/\/sites.msudenver.edu\/tpswesternregion\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/476\/2022\/11\/Ginsburg_small.jpeg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-805\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-805\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.msudenver.edu\/tpswesternregion\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/476\/2022\/11\/Ginsburg_small.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"296\" height=\"296\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.msudenver.edu\/tpswesternregion\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/476\/2022\/11\/Ginsburg_small.jpeg 500w, https:\/\/sites.msudenver.edu\/tpswesternregion\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/476\/2022\/11\/Ginsburg_small-300x300.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/sites.msudenver.edu\/tpswesternregion\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/476\/2022\/11\/Ginsburg_small-150x150.jpeg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 296px) 100vw, 296px\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jewishheritagemonth.gov\/images\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Supreme Court of the United States<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">I asked <a href=\"https:\/\/tpsteachersnetwork.org\/danna-bell\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Danna Bell<\/a> if the Library had any single page with a list of all the National Heritage Month pages, and she replied that there\u2019s no actual collection page. However, she noted that the Library hosts sites that include resources for various federal cultural heritage institutions. If you follow any <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.loc.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Library of Congress blogs<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> regularly, you will see posts filled with resources and links from across multiple Library departments and services, and all those blogs are searchable. Search the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.loc.gov\/teachers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Teaching with the Library of Congress<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> blog for <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.loc.gov\/teachers\/?s=heritage\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">heritage<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, for instance, and you will find sixty different posts! One example from the Law Library of Congress is titled <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/guides.loc.gov\/black-history-month-legal-resources\/history-and-overview\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Black History Month: A Commemorative Observances Legal Research Guide<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. You can find more examples by searching or scrolling to a particular heritage month topic at <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/guides.loc.gov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">guides.loc.gov<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. These include photos of African American soldiers, African American music, information on exodusters, a map of the distribution of African American populations in 1890, African American women in space, and much more. A search on \u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Native American<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201d brings up a similar number of posts.
