Are you an MSU Denver student interested in becoming my teaching assistant (TA), learning assistant (LA), or research assistant (RA)? Being a TA, LA, or RA is a chance to work closely with a professor, and these types of experiences are high-impact practices that have been shown to be beneficial for students.
My TAs and RAs take either PSY 3390 Undergraduate Teaching Assistant or PSY 3370 Undergraduate Research Assistant with me. Students who are LAs do so as a part of the MSU Denver Learning Assistant Program. I only accept TAs, LAs, or RAs who have taken at least one course with me and done well in that class.
Research Assistants
RAs may help me conduct literature searches, design studies, collect data, interpret data, and present results. Exact tasks and duties may vary depending on which semester students are RAs, as projects can be at different stages during different semesters. I am currently working on projects related to mindfulness and prejudice reduction and projects related to exercise motivation and gender.
Fall 2026: Thank you for your interest, but I have all the RAs I need for Fall 2026.
Spring 2027: I do not believe I will have RAs in Spring 2027. However, I will be making final decisions in October 2026, so check with me if you are interested.
Teaching Assistants
Teaching assistants need to have taken the course from me and earned an A. They will take PSY 3390 Undergraduate Teaching Assistant with me, and we will meet for 2.5 hours a week (standard for a 3-credit course). In addition, TAs will attend the class they are TAing, have weekly office hours, and complete other TA duties.
Fall 2026: I appreciate your interest, but I currently do not anticipate having TAs in any of my classes for Fall 2026.
Spring 2027: Once I know my teaching schedule, I will decide whether I will have TAs this semester.
Learning Assistants
Sometimes, I have learning assistants in my courses. Those students are paid through MSU Denver’s Learning Assistant program for up to 10 hours a week to assist in a class, specifically to help students in the class learn the material.
We will meet weekly for 1 hour. LAs also attend the course they are assisting and attend the LA trainings before and throughout the semester. LAs need to have taken the course with me before and earned an A. Additionally, I have to apply for an LA through the program and be accepted, so an LA position is not guaranteed.
Fall 2026: The deadline has passed. I can no longer apply for an LA for Fall 2026.
Summer 2026: There are a few LA spots available this summer if you have been an LA before. I am teaching PSY 3700 and PSY 2310 this summer. Email me if you are interested in being an LA for either course. I would need to apply for an LA and be accepted into the program.
