With old friends and new faces, the High school Young Artists took a stroll down Santa Fe Ave. to experience the all female exhibition from local, Denver artists on display at the Unit-E gallery. Missy Heagle, our instructor, is one of the artists with work on display in this show. Her wood-cut prints were well received by our young artists and served as a jumping off point for our students to further their thinking about printmaking, the mode of art making that we are currently undertaking. We spent our time exploring the breadth of the show, taking in the many types of artwork, and talking in small groups about works that caught our eye. Some students talked about gender identity’s role in artwork; how some of the works looked more feminine than others. After some time, we came together to share our thoughts about individual artworks—the intentions and meanings, the methodologies and media used, and our interpretations and our own meaning-making.
Now we are headed back to the studio to incorporate what we have seen into our work. We only have a few weeks until our work in exhibited at the CVA!
