That was fun wasn’t it?!

Talking to random strangers on the street, what could be more fun than that? It was an amazing experience for me to look at all the beautiful faces Denver has and trying to get them to talk to you and play the super fun games! I can’t wait for next Thursday. OH HECK YEAH! Also how about that street art guys? Denver is so beautiful, I’m obviously still in awe with last night’s rad experience. #SideWaysPictureLifeBecauseMyPhoneWontTurnIt #OhHeckYeahIJustUsedAHashtag

monoprints and sacred

We are studying the work of Frank Buffalo Hyde, among other artists in the exhibition Cross Currents and learning about the idea of sacred. We made monoprints in response.  In these monoprints we used inspiration from places, people, items, happenings that were personal to us that could be likened to something sacred.

Daily Sketchbook

Everyday in the Young Artist Studio we warm up our minds and get geared up for the projects by responding to a sketchbook prompt.
The prompts or questions are big idea generators that relate to a project or to the artwork in the gallery. Although, sometimes the prompts are unrelated and have a silly spin to them!

See you next year!

Picture

This summer’s Creative Industries Internship was AMAZING!  We are all looking forward to next year’s camp.  Thank you so much to the CVA for supporting us, to Goodwill for teaching us, to the Biennial for including us and to all the community members who took time out of their lives to work with us.  We are all inspired and feel much more ready to jump into careers in the creative industry!  Thanks!

Butterflies at the Biennial

Our internship includes working as ambassadors for the Biennial of the Americas.  Today we spoke with the public about an installation on the 16th street mall.  Two architects, Meyer-Grohbrügge & Chermayeff, installed small net cages for butterflies.  It was interesting to hear the perspectives of people passing through the space.  Generally, there was a sense of calm in the space containing the butterflies as opposed to hustle and bustle of the city around us.

Final Construction Day!

Getting ready for the opening reception tonight!  The work is nearly finished!  Come check it out tonight.

Art and Urban Planning Panel Discussion

Picture

Today was an incredible learning opportunity.  Gallery owners, philanthropists, art collectors, theater directors and members of city and state government spoke to us about their work in the creative field.  It was unbelievably valuable to hear about their lives, goals and career paths.  It was also remarkable to hear how integrated city planning is with the local arts.

Thank you to Ivar, Tanya and Lisa and to Su Teatro, Colorado Creative Industries and Plus + Gallery!

Architecture and Urban Planning Panel Discussion

Thank you Marilee, Cherie, Daniel and Mark and Urban Land Institute, City Projects and Anderson Mason Dale Architecture!  It was invaluable to hear from you about your career paths and work in urban planning in Denver.

Proposals

We completed our models and shared formal presentations with Amy, Cecily and Talya of the CVA.  It was super stressful but they seemed to like our proposals.  Next week we will learn about their approval and begin ordering materials.  It is going to be amazing to build these in the CVA parking lot!!!

Public Art Exploration and Intro to the Biennial

Do you know how much public art there is in Confluence Park?!?!  Did you know that as recently as the 1990’s there was nothing but dirt and railroads?
Well, today we explored the park and uncovered the installations that the city approved for the park as well as the process involved in public art installations.  The professionals use RFP’s as well!  We also learned a bit about our upcoming work with the Biennial.

Sketching!

Here are some of our draft ideas for the parking lot installation!  Tomorrow we will be submitting our proposals to the staff of the CVA before proceeding to the design/build part of the project!  It is going to be hard to choose from among our designs.  They are all so different and intriguing!  Maybe we should consider combining elements of each of them in our final design.

Introductions

After starting the day as a group of inspired and creative…strangers, we found some pretty amazing things about each other!
Today was about meeting each other and understanding what we are going to do during the internship this summer.   The RFP for the parking lot intervention will tell us more about the expectations for the installation.  Later this week we will be visiting the site of the Biennial!

Tomorrow!

See you at the CVA!
