MTH 1210 requires that you have a scientific calculator that has the capability to input data and compute the sample mean and sample standard deviation. The following calculators are calculators that I personally own and have practiced with. If you are purchasing a new calculator for this class, I highly recommend getting a scientific one because they are more affordable. If you have a graphing calculator from a previous math class, that will also work.
TI-36X Pro (Scientific)
A fairly inexpensive calculator at about $20. This calculator can do all needed computations, but lacks the capability to double-check some of the work for the last third of the class. However, since I require that you show all work set-up on your paper anyway, this is a great choice for MTH 1210. |

TI-84 Plus (Graphing)
An expensive calculator at around $120, the TI-84 Plus or TI-84 Plus CE (color and rechargeable) is pretty much the “standard” calculator in many schools, and there are even instructions for this calculator in our book or e-book. Many tutors have familiarity with this calculator. This calculator can double-check your work for the entire term, but you still have to show me work on your paper.

Casio fx-9750GII (Graphing)
A more affordable option to the TI-84 Plus at about $50. This can do all of the same computations as the TI-84 Plus, but I have found that most instructors and tutors have no idea how to use this calculator. (Of course, I own and have used this calculator and can help with any questions.) |
