by McKenna Themm
of the lord
be upon you and
your cherry cheekbones and
your cotton-colored hair,
as you dance around
in circles,
putting to air
our paper sketches
of daffodils and crows.
And even if god turns
away
to watch over others,
I will protect you —
even when our bodies are
nothing
but dust
in the ground.
