one morning
tangerines fell on the snow
they burned it down to the clay
and to the core
melted through the rock
thousands of miles deep
there’s citrus zest in center now
and mercury
scientists mined a slice
and x-rayed
sick dried flowers inside
are imprisoned
for a long time
and in vain
tangerines share smoldering
of the earth
