Calculus Committee

I am on the Calculus Committee.  We meet periodically to discuss the content of the Calculus sequence, which, in our department, consists of:

      • Calculus: I limits, continuity, derivatives, antiderivatives and the FTOC with applications;
      • Calculus II: integration techniques, sequences and series, various tests for convergence
      • Calculus III: parametric equations, graphing in 3D, vectors, vector Calculus, partial differentiation, optimization, multiple integrals and applications.

The goal of the committee is to evaluate the content of the course and its appropriateness for our students.  Such periodic checks have historically led to the creation of the gateway exams for Calculus I and Calculus II.  We are in the process of evaluating the efficacy of these exams and hope to find a more robust solution to guaranteeing our students are adequately prepared for the subsequent courses in mathematics and their respective majors.
