Day 1 Teaching objectives | Language and Culture

Day 1 TEACHING OBJECTIVES:

To discuss the relationship of foreign language learning and learning how to prepare for interacting in the cultures where people speak the language studied (teacher generated discussion, depending on course and level);
To introduce different definitions of the word culture and prompt student discussion;
To define some cultural terminology common in FL classrooms and materials – “Big C culture” and “Small c culture” and to guide students to distinguish between them using a succession of images
To present the ACTFL terms “Product”, “Practice” and “Perspective” and examples from French-speaking countries to help students to learn to distinguish between them.
To establish a baseline of student knowledge about Morocco, its territory and cultures
To provide homework questions for student reading of Evidences invisibles for Day 2
