Online Education Coordinator: Ann Obermann, LCSW, PhD  [email protected]

“Working with faculty and students to create a high quality and accessible online delivery option for the BSSW and MSW programs at Metropolitan State University of Denver is an exciting and ever changing job! We are reaching out to so many students that without the online education options would not have been able to complete their social work dreams! The bottom line is that we are creating connection and community outside of our university walls by embracing innovative technology and teaching.”

Social Work Online & Hybrid Course Development Analyst: Dr. Becky Cottrell [email protected]

Becky Cottrell, Ph.D

“I love making sure that students in online and hybrid classes have the same inclusive and engaging academic experience as face-to-face students.  The challenge of using new educational technology to develop relationships and meaningful communities of learning keeps me motivated.  Working with faculty who are committed to the improving student experience in a robust program is what excites me most about working with the social work department.  I look forward to working with you all to develop innovative teaching practices in your online and hybrid classes!”

This is a new and exciting position for the Department of Social Work that supports the MSW and BSSW programs. This position is intended to augment the CTLD supports for online course design and teaching support. This position will work one on one with faculty to help design, support, and evaluate their online and hybrid design, content, and teaching. There are specific social work competencies that need to be met in order to accredit our MSW and BSSW program that the Development Analyst will help track and apply. In addition to one on one support and programmatic goals and duties, this position will conduct department wide training for online and hybrid instructors, track and apply best online instruction practices, and help you create the best online course possible.

BSSW Director: Dr. K Scherrer  [email protected]

“Adapting to technological innovations is a hallmark of what society (and employers) expect from us. I know this first hand because in my 10+ years as a University instructor I have been asked to adapt to new technologies in the classroom, both online and in face to face classes. I’ve been surprised at how empowering it can be to engage with these technologies. I’m excited to share this feeling of empowerment with students as we learn together how to use technologies that enable us share about our experiences and create a better world for vulnerable and marginalized communities.”

MSW Director: Dr. Jo Bailey  [email protected]

“We take accessibility seriously.  Having a fully online option and online courses available to all students is one way for our program to provide accessibility and support to working students, students with families, and students for whom traveling to campus in Denver is prohibitive.”

Social Work Department Chair: Dr. Jessica Retrum [email protected]

“Online education and skills training is the way of the future and we are embracing that fact! We are determined to create high quality online programming for our already high quality curriculum to train talented and competent social workers. We also hope that by creating online options, we can reach much needed areas of the state- see this piece for more: How colleges reach remote students.”
