Advising

Academic advisors are a fantastic resource for navigating MSU Denver efficiently and successfully. Academic advisors support your growth and journey through university by working with you to select paths of study, enroll in classes, monitor academic progress, and ensuring graduation requirements have been met. They are also excellent at getting you connected to resources on campus that will support your achievements.

MSU Denver academic advisors are available and able to conduct advising appointments with both current and prospective students via phone, email, and/or virtual meetings.

Advising at MSU Denver happens in the academic department for your major, minor, or certificate. These programs are grouped into Colleges or Schools. If you are exploring options and don’t yet have a major, we’ve got a team for you, too. Check out Exploratory Advising.

Important Dates

You will want to see an advisor at these critical times:

  • During or after orientation: this session will help you start off with useful classes to your program of study.
  • Before registration each term: checking in with your advisor each term not only ensures you’re on the right path to graduation but also allows you to develop a relationship with your advisor. (They can often point you to great opportunities if they know more about you and your plans.)
  • At least once an academic year: a regular appointment each year will ensure there are no surprises when it’s time to graduate.

Connect with an Advisor

Each College or School within the university offers its own advising. So whatever college or school your major belongs to, you’ll seek advising from that college or school. If you don’t know which college or school your major belongs to, visit the Advising page for more detailed information.
